The Bluemlisalp traverse

The traverse of the Bluemlisalp is between the summits of the Morgenhorn and the Doldenhorn; an incredible formation of limestone peaks overlooking Lake Oeschinensee.

This traverse is one of the most impressive in the Bernese Oberland and is done from east to west, from the summit of the Morgenhorn, via the Wyssi Frau, to the summit of the Bluemlisalphorn.  The ridge is steep and sharp, requiring excellent climbing skills and crampon technique especially given the limestone which is requires a certain finesse.

This course had been planned for a while with Gérard, and fortunately the conditions were excellent after a week of bad weather.  We were surrounded by the magnificent summits of the Bietschorn, the Eiger, the Weisshorn to the south – all the high summits of the Alps are there for the eyes to feast on.
